Microsoft Dynamics GP ERP Manufacturing Software (formerly Manufacturing Great Plains) offers a cost-effective way for mid-market manufacturers to manage and integrate finances, e-commerce, supply chain, light manufacturing, project accounting, field service, customer relationships and human resources. Microsoft Dynamics GP incorporates the familiar look and feel of Microsoft Office Outlook and it extends access to business information through Microsoft Office SharePoint Server, Excel and Word. This manufacturing software product is oriented toward repetitive or assemble-to-order manufacturing, but is not a fit for engineer-to-order, complex configure-to-order or batch manufacturing environments. Microsoft is no longer promoting it as a serious manufacturing solution.
There are two editions of Microsoft Dynamics GP: Business Essentials (BE) and Advanced Management (AM). Additional modules can be added to each edition to create a custom ERP software solution to meet a company’s particular business management needs. Great Plains was acquired by Microsoft in April 2001 and re-branded as Microsoft Dynamics GP in December 2005. It has been on the market longer than any other high-end Windows-based accounting system, and is used by more than 50,000 customers worldwide. First released in 1993, the software has achieved a unique level of stability, maturity and technological leadership in its market segment.
The 2018 enhancements of significant include workflow v4.0 approvals for all applications and additional fields for PO and payables. You can now add, view, and modify attachments on most master record windows, inquiry windows, and transaction entry windows. Reminder e-mails for workflow help keep approvals on task.
